Dunga, the new coach of the Brazilian national team, has called up the PSV players Gomes and Alex for the friendly against Norway on 16 August next. It is the first time that the two Brazilian players in the service of PSV have been called up together for the Seleçao. The good news was announced on Tuesday night. Gomes as well as Alex were called up before, but never before were the two PSV players named together.New boss Dunga dropped several quality players from the national squad (the Seleçao). Players that appeared at the World Cup, the likes of Kaká, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Ronaldo, have not received a call-up, as Dunga wants to see some other players in action. Gomes and Alex will report for national duty after the Johan Cruijff Shield contest and before the curtain raiser against N.E.C. Gomes will face competition from Cruzeiro goalkeeper Fábio and Alex will compete with Juan (Leverkusen) and Luisão (Benfica).“I am delighted”, said Gomes, when asked for a first reaction. “Dunga is the new coach and a new era has started for the national squad. He wants to see a number of players perform. This is a great opportunity. I will do my very best and hope we can keep this squad.” The squad selection is hot news in Brazil. Representatives of the Brazilian media called Alex a great many times on Tuesday night and it took PSV officials a long time to get in touch with him and congratulate him.
