The UEFA Champions League draw will take place in Monaco tonight at 18:00. PSV are the only Dutch competitor in this prestigious tournament, just like they were exactly fifteen seasons ago. The1992-1993 season saw the first edition of the Champions League as successor of the familiar European Cup I. PSV have a tradition to maintain: PSV were the first Dutch club ever in 1955 to compete in the Coupe Européenne, as the tournament was called in those days. PSV, who fielded, among other players, Roel Wiersma, Coen Dillen and Piet Fransen, suffered defeat against Rapid Wien in that season. PSV progressed to the group stages at the end of 1992, after coach Hans Westerhof had guided them to victories over Zalgiris Vilnius from Lithuania (6-0, 0-2) and AEK Athens (1-0 defeat, 3-0 win). PSV were paired with FC Porto, AC Milan and IFK Göteborg, but did not achieve great successes. PSV were to compete in the world’s most prestigious club tournament nine more times. So PSV will take part in the UCL draw for the tenth time in a row tonight and compete in the Champions League tournament for the eleventh time. Only the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayern München and Olympiakos can boast such achievements. PSV have joined the best clubs from Europe on the international stage year after year. It all started in the 1992-1993 campaign, when the club was called Philips SV and Romário was shining. PSV will be in pot 2 tonight, so they will be automatically paired with one of the seeded teams.
