PSV slumped to their first league defeat on two games in Enschede. N’Knufo scored the only goal of the afternoon in the 71st minute. ToumaFC Twente, coached by former PSV assistant coaches Fred Rutten en René Eijkelkamp, created the first dangerous moment in the PSV box. The PSV defence had not cleared the ball very well on twenty minutes and Sharbel Touma pounced on the rebound, but Gomes did well to deny him. Afellay and Salcido got some slender chances for PSV, but the visitors did not succeed in cutting into the Twente area. Farfán had a shot blocked and Touma and N’Kufo threatened at the other end. The first half was an equally contested affair, although PSV had more possession. It was raining cats and dogs for forty-five minutes, but it stopped raining at half time. As soon as the players entered the pitch for the restart, the rain was pouring down again Van Egmond showed former PSV player Wielaert a yellow card. N’KufoThe second half continued largely in the same vein as the first. PSV enjoyed most possession of the ball, but lacked cutting edge up front. The hosts created the best chances after the interval as well and deservedly took the lead. N’Knufo, left unmarked, was picked out and he simply slotted home at the near post; 1-0. With twenty minutes remaining, defender Addo was taken off and Beerens was put on as an extra forward. Farfán had a goal disallowed and Alex and Simons fired shots from close range over the goal and FC Twente claimed their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over PSV.
