After the final training in the Philips Stadion, ahead of the UCL opening game against Liverpool, PSV conducted the traditional pre-match post conference. Head coach Ronald Koeman gave his views and new signing Jan Kromkamp sat down beside him. "Hard to compare leagues"Jan Kromkamp stated that it’s no use making a comparison between the Premier League and the Champions League, when asked to comment on the embarrassing 3-0 defeat Liverpool suffered against town fellows Everton last Saturday afternoon. "The Champions League is a completely different kind of competition", explained the defender. "A team will only be eager to return to winning ways once they have slipped to defeat. Liverpool are a quality side. But I feel you should not even start a game, when you lack the confidence to earn a victory yourself. So yes, I think we can beat Liverpool.” Kromkamp made it emphatically clear he has no hard feelings about his former club and coach Benítez. "I found it hard to find my rhythm when I was not given much playing time. I need to play games to get in shape. I loved my spell with Liverpool and I will always cherish fond memories of the FA Cup final. But now I am delighted to be here, as PSV are a great club.”Last seasonLast season Ronald Koeman guided Benfica to a Champions league quarter final place, after having eliminated Liverpool. "Liverpool will field more or less the same players. They have made some changes, but not that many. I expect they will play their familiar game. They still have the same coach and their game plan will not have changed much. We met them twice last season. First we played host to them in an equally contested, physical game, when neither team created many chances. We scored a goal ten minutes from full time from a set piece we had practised at training. We were forced to defend in the return leg and we survived many scares. But when the ball fell our way, we scored a precious away goal and the game was virtually wrapped up. We even doubled our advantage, but I have learnt from the double leg that they are hard to beat. That’s why I think the result of the Everton game does not mean that much. I take it for granted Dirk Kuyt will start." Kluivert and CocuThe head coach has not made up his mind yet whether he will call up Patrick Kluivert. "We will decide tomorrow whether he will be called up. I feel it’s up to the player himself to a great extent as well. I have my own ideas and I will discuss them with Patrick and together we will take.the decision. But it is doubtful if he starts on the bench tomorrow night or Sunday, when we take on Feyenoord."Cocu misses Tuesday night’s game, as he serves a one-match ban. PSV will have to do without a player that can take his own decisions. "That’s what he did last Saturday night, when he decided to play on the right flank and ask Mendez to play on the left wing. We realise only too well we will miss his ability to change things tactically on the pitch. But that does not imply we will field a far weaker side."32, 000 tickets have already been sold for tomorrow night’s clash.
