Ahead of Sunday afternoon’s Eredivisie game against sc Heerenveen, it is tempting to bring to mind last season’s encounter. PSV enjoyed a 3-2 victory in the county of Friesland, thanks to three goals scored by Arouna Koné. The African put in an outstanding performance and was a constant menace. Phillip Cocu and Arouna Koné led PSV to victory in the Abe Lenstra Stadium. The PSV captain recorded three assists and Koné inflicted maximum punishment in sc Heerenveen: the African lived up to his reputation as a clinical finisher by producing three stunning strikes. He made some great runs and caused constant problems for defenders. And he kept cool, calm and collected when he was in scoring position. The game was played on 2 October 2005, prior to a few international games, just like tomorrow afternoon’s encounter.Koné scored one goal in the first period and two after the break. When PSV took on sc Heerenveen last season, Koné led the attack, supported by Beasley, who is on loan with Manchester City and Farfán, who is recovering from a severe concussion. The Ivory Coast striker netted 11 goals for PSV last season, after he had found the net for Roda JC twice. This season Koné ended his goal drought against amateurs Kozakken Boys. Last Wednesday he delivered the assist for Mika Väyrynen’s goal, so PSV grabbed three points in France. Tomorrow we will see whether Koné gets going once again, one year after. The game kicks off at 14:30.
