PSV head coach Ronald Koeman praised his team for a fine performance. “I am awfully proud of this team. I am delighted with our second half performance in a European clash with last season’s finalists Arsenal”, he said. Koeman hastened to add that PSV have a chance of reaching the next round, but will face a tough test in London.
“I am delighted with the win. This was the best possible result for us and in view of our second-half performance, we deserved it”, started Ronald Koeman his review of the game at the post-match press conference. “After we had opened the scoring, we gained confidence. Our compact defence was well-organized and we conceded nothing. I am awfully proud of this team.” Koeman expects Arsenal to put up pressure at the Emirates Stadium. “We will have to perform just as well as we did in the second period tonight. We proved that you can win with a very good organisation. They will attack more at home, giving us more space. We will face a tough test in London, but have a chance of going through.”
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger thought his team had played a decent first half and created chances to open the scoring. The Frenchman found it hard to explain what happened in the second half. “We lost our rhythm and did not create any chances. We lost as PSV put in a good second-half display and our fluency went. We are in a tricky situation, because we have to score two goals without conceding anything. Based on tonight’s overall performance, I think we will have enough confidence to get through in the second match”, concluded Wenger his analysis in the Philips Stadium.
