PSV head coach Ronald Koeman has made 26-year-old Mike Zonneveld his first summer signing. The defender/midfielder joins PSV from NAC Breda on a four-year contract. Although Mike Zonneveld was hampered by injuries, he put in some very convincing displays for NAC Breda last season. “This is just great. I am so proud I am given this opportunity.” Zonneveld was at the Philips Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to complete some formalities, after he had passed a medical earlier on the day. The left-footed player started his career at the Ajax Youth Academy and then had spells with Go Ahead Eagles and N.E.C., before he moved to NAC Breda. Zonneveld, born in Leiden, but living in Noordwijk, had a conversation with head coach Ronald Koeman and was given a tour of De Herdgang sports complex. “PSV is a leading club in Nederland and they have qualified for the UEFA Champions League for eleven seasons in a row.” For me this is a major step and of course a big challenge," told Zonneveld PSV Media.
Zonneveld, a versatile player who can play at the back and in midfield, is known for his technical skills, trade-mark free kicks and commitment. Negotiations between the two parties had been going on for some weeks and on Wednesday Zonneveld signed a four-year deal which keeps him at the Philips Stadium until the summer of 2011. “For me it’s a clear choice .I had a great feeling after my conversation with Ronald Koeman. If you look at the clubs where I have played before, joining PSV means a natural progression in my career. I am delighted to be here”, said Zonneveld, who will report for duty at De Herdgang on 9 July when PSV start the pre-season campaign.
