PSV ended the 2006-2007 season with a 7-1 win over amateurs VV Acht at De Leeuwekuil on Saturday night. Zeefuik, De Jong, Voss, who scored a hat trick, Waalkens and Romario Sabajo netted goals for the Dutch champions, while Erwin Koeman scored a consolation for the hosts.
Some 1500 people had come to see the memorial game organised to celebrate VV Acht’s 60th anniversary. The game was played in pleasantly relaxed circumstances and the weather was fine. PSV fielded some first-team regulars, while some talented juniors were also included in the starting eleven. After the break Jan Wouters, Stan Valckx and head coach Ronald Koeman made an appearance for PSV.
PSV took a 3-0 lead within twenty minutes, thanks to goals from Género Zeefuik (assist Paul Voss), John de Jong (Phillip Cocu) and Voss (Romario Sabajo). Jasper Waalkens then got two great opportunities to stretch PSV’s lead even further, but the youngster was off target. After the break the defender did get his name on the score sheet, just like Romario Sabajo and, again, Voss On 58 minutes Koeman made a double substitution: assistant coach Wouters and technical director Valckx took over from Zeefuik and Reiziger, while soon afterwards Ronald Koeman himself left the bench. He replaced Patrick Kluivert, who, just like Michael Reiziger and Phillip Cocu, had made their final appearance in PSV colours. In the closing stages of the ‘Koeman v Koeman match’, Erwin Koeman pulled one back for the amateurs with a well-placed free kick, while Vos made it 7-1. The summer holidays have now officially started. The players will report for duty at De Herdgang sports complex again on Monday 9 July.
