Mexico, with Carlos Salcido, will meet Guadeloupe in the Gold Cup semi-finals on Thursday night, after Hugo Sanchez’s team beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the quarter finals. PSV defender Salcido played the full 90 minutes, while Borgetti scored the winning goal four minutes into extra time.
Team USA Canada will face the United States of America in the other semi final. Team USA, who had given a place to DaMarcus Beasley in their starting line-up, enjoyed a 2-1 victory against Panama. Beasley did not find the net, but played the full 90 minutes against Panama. The United States and Mexico are favourites to book a place in the final. If Mexico progress to the final, Salcido will hardly have any time left to recover, for the Copa America, the prestigious tournament for the Latin America region, will start in Venezuela straight after the Gold Cup, while PSV start preparations for the new season with a first training session on July 9. Besides Salcido, Beasley, Farfán, Mendez and Alex will also compete in the Copa America.
