PSV will be seeded in the second tier for the UEFA Champions League draw, just like in the previous seasons. The Dutch champions will consequently draw one tough opponent and two, relatively speaking, less formidable teams. The Eindhoven outfit is ranked thirteenth by the UEFA club coefficients.
Eight top seeds The seedings are decided by the UEFA club coefficients, which are determined by an individual side's performances in European football over the last five years. Each club collects points by pulling off a win or a draw, while a county’s co-efficient points are also taken into consideration when the ranking score is established. PSV reached the semi-finals, the knock-out phases and the quarter finals respectively the past three seasons, but never managed to progress to the next phase in the years before. Champions League winners AC Milan, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Manchester United are among the eight top seeds for the draw.
PSV avoid Lyon, Porto and Roma
VfB Stuttgart, Schalke 04, CSKA Moscow, Sporting Lisbon and Olympique Marseille have already ensured qualification for Europe’s most prestigious tournament, but Liverpool and Arsenal still need to qualify to take their place among the top seeds for the group phase. PSV will avoid French champions Olympique Lyon, Portuguese champions FC Porto, but AS Roma, Sevilla, Valencia, Benfica and Ajax will also be among the second seeds for the Champions League tournament next season, if they succeed in qualifying for the main tournament.
