PSV will meet VVV-Venlo, at the Seacon Stadium on Wednesday night, with a 20:00 kick-off, for the first time since 1999. The newly-promoted club has invited Ronald Koeman's team to play a Herman Teeuwen Memorial game, in memory of the former VVV-Venlo player.
PSV last met VVV in a friendly, ahead of the 1999-2000 season, when the two sides settled for a 2-2 draw. PSV last met VVV in Venlo for an official match in 1997, when they booked a place in the Dutch Cup semi-finals, following a 2-1 win against VVV in the quarter-finals.
PSV last met VVV in a league encounter in the 1993-1994 campaign. PSV cruised to a comfortable 3-0 in Venlo and earned a narrow 3-2 victory at home at the Philips Stadium.
VVV were relegated from the Eredivisie in that season, but have returned to the Dutch top flight again, after they saw off RKC Waalwijk in the play-offs last season.
VVV-Venlo want to keep the memory of club icon Herman Teeuwen alive by playing a memorial against a renowned opponent at the Seacon Stadium in Venlo during the pre-season campaign every year. The club icon, who added value to VVV for many seasons as a player and a scout, died in 2003.
VVV will provide serious opposition for PSV, who will play another friendly next Saturday when they make a trip to Germany to face MSV Duisburg, with Michael Lamey, who joined the newly promoted Bundesliga club during the summer transfer window.
