PSV celebrate their 94th anniversary today. The Eindhoven Football Club PSV was founded on 31 August 1913, at the end of a big Philips sports party marking the 100th anniversary of Dutch independence.

The sports party took place at the Philips Sports Park, at exactly the same location where the present Philips Stadium was built.
The club started as a Philips factory team and competed for league football from 1914 onwards. In the space of ten years, PSV were promoted to the First Division and since 1926 they have always been a top-flight team. They clinched the Dutch title for the first time in 1929 and won their first Dutch Cup in 1950.
Five years later, shortly after professional football was introduced in Holland, PSV were the first Dutch club to take part in the Coupe Européene, the predecessor of the European Cup I and the current UEFA Champions League.
PSV will participate in the UEFA Champions League for a record twelfth time and for the eleventh straight time in succession. PSV are again the only club to represent the Netherlands in the most prestigious football tournament in the world.
They won the Dutch title in professional football for the first time in 1963, after having won championships three times before. All together they clinched twenty Dutch titles in their 94-year history, while they lifted the Dutch Cup eight times and the Johan Cruijff Shield six times. Moreover they won the UEFA Cup in 1978 and the European Cup I in 1988.
The Philips team played their first match ever in January 1911, with Frits Philips, who was five years old at that time, kicking off the game.
