PSV still cherish great memories of the Fenerbahçe SK fans for the impact they had on the tribute paid to Frits Philips who had just passed away two years ago. Before the game a minute's silence was observed to pay homage to Frits Philips and the silence was immaculately observed by fans of both clubs.
Most Turkish fans are known for their vociferous support, roaring on their team to success and setting off fireworks, which, by the way, is strictly forbidden in the Netherlands. Yet two seasons ago PSV's Champions League clash with Fenerbahçe was not disturbed by one single false note.
'The supporters behaved well throughout the day', says Frank Wijnveld, PSV Match Organization & Security manager. 'The travelling fans also observed a minute's silence and nothing much happened during the game. I hope we will see more of the same today and tomorrow', said Wijnveld. PSV meet a Turkish team for the third time in a row and Fenerbahçe for the second time in the space of three years.
