Departing coach Ronald Koeman explained his reasons for leaving PSV to take over at Valencia at a news conference at a packed pressroom at the Philips Stadium on Wednesday night. 'Opportunity knocked for me and I immediately decided to take my chance. That is how I am and that is the world of football. I am someone who goes for it', said Koeman.

Koeman will say goodbye to PSV at De Herdgang training centre on Thursday and fly to Spain on Friday to sign his new two-and-a-half year deal. He may be coach at Valencia for the first time when they play host to Rosenborg on 6 November in their Champions League group stage campaign on Matchday 4.
Koeman was asked how he had experienced his stay with PSV. 'I enjoyed only a short, but successful spell. When you sign a contract, you obviously expect to serve it out. People will hopefully understand my motives for moving to Valencia, but others will probably not. It was a tough decision, because PSV is also a fantastic club. But this is the world of football. Opportunity knocked for me and I immediately decided to take my chances. Valencia is a great club. I played some terrific games there and I like the atmosphere, the stadium and the club a lot. I have warm feelings about Spain.'
PSV, Valencia and Koeman have reached agreement in no time. 'The negotiations were completed quickly, after Quique Sánchez Flores was dismissed by Valencia at the start of this week. We had some fruitful meetings and then I decided to grab my chance and leave PSV.'
