PSV captain Timmy Simons was told on Wednesday afternoon that head coach Ronald Koeman and assistant Tonny Bruins Slot would leave PSV to take over at Valencia. 'It came as a surprise, but things like that will always happen in football', he said at the Philips Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Belgian international was not disappointed about Koeman's decision to leave PSV. 'I don't feel disappointed at all. Koeman and PSV have parted company with mutual agreement and it was in the interest of both parties concerned to solve this in the best of spirits.' Simons does not think Koeman's decision to leave PSV can be rated as inconvenient either. 'What would have been an appropriate moment? Resigning in the middle of the season will always be inconvenient. Of course it's a shame for PSV. Koeman is a genuine professional and he and his assistants worked together well. With two members of the coaching staff gone, PSV will step up their search for a new coaching staff. I feel confident about the future.'
