PSV caretaker coach Jan Wouters was content with the fighting spirit PSV had shown in their 1-0 defeat at home to Internazionale. PSV finished third in Group G, which ensures a place in the UEFA Cup Round of 32. 'There's no shame in finishing third in our group. We were drawn against three national champions.' Wouters thought that PSV were perhaps a bit unlucky with the red card.

'I thought we started well tonight and were well-organised, but we knew we would face an uphill battle when we were reduced to ten men after half an hour's play. Mendez was perhaps a bit unlucky to be shown the red card. We were caught on the break.'
Wouters realised it was the turning point of the game. 'We performed well, although we played the last hour with ten men. We bravely held on and that will give us confidence.' With Sunday's crucial match against Ajax in mind, Wouters took off Farfán and Afellay. The PSV caretaker coach did not want to look ahead at Sunday's game in Amsterdam yet and did not comment on the commanding display that Kenneth Perez had put in as a substitute either. 'There's no shame in finishing third in our group. We were drawn against three national champions in our group.'

At the post-match press conference Inter coach Roberto Mancini was asked whether he had rested some of his key players ahead of the Serie A clash with Cagliari.
'We have seen a real football match. We took our opponents seriously and did not rest players on purpose.' Mancini remained tight-lipped, when asked what team he would like to avoid at the draw for the next stage. 'That's not on my mind. We have plenty of time to prepare ourselves for the knockout stages.'
