PSV head coach Sef Vergoossen told media representatives at the post-match press conference that VVV were good value for a share of the spoils in their 1-1 draw against PSV, but added that PSV could have won if luck had been on their side. VVV-Venlo boss André Wetzel said his team had attained a bonus point and praised VVV, who had been reduced to ten men on the half hour mark, for a spirited and passionate display.
'We had warned our players against any complacency and told them that a trip to VVV-Venlo would be just as much of a tall task as an encounter at sc Heerenveen. VVV-Venlo are a well-organised team. We were one goal down after just one minute and we could not take advantage of a numerical advantage. We played a low-tempo game and piled up the pressure only after the break, but VVV-Venlo also had their moments. We could have taken all three points, but luck was not on our side. The final score of 1-1 was in the end a fair reflection on the game, but nobody could have blamed us for bagging all three points.'
VVV boss André Wetzel was delighted with the perfect start his team had made. 'But PSV got back into the game. I think my team deserves credit for producing goal threat even when they had been reduced to ten men. We have snatched a point against a top team for the third time at home this season. I am pleased with the bonus point.'
