Defender Dirk Marcellis has agreed a new contract extension at PSV which will see him stay at the Philips Stadium until the summer of 2012. PSV are delighted with the progress the 19-year-old has made. Marcellis is having a great season and has developed into an established player, and PSV have rewarded his impressive form this season with a contract extension. 'It feels great to have a contract extension', Marcellis told PSV Media.
Marcellis, who joined PSV in 1998, came through the youth set-up at PSV, and has been moved to the centre of defence to fill the sizeable void left by the departure of Alex to Chelsea in the summer of 2007. Marcellis was ten years old when he became a junior player at PSV. 'As a youth player I worked hard to raise standards, while as a first-team player I have to put in commanding displays each and every game', explained Marcellis, who is delighted to put pen to paper on a new deal. 'I enjoy my stay with the club and it feels great to have a contract extension', announced Marcellis after the Thursday training session at De Herdgang training centre.
