At the media briefing, ahead of the UEFA Cup Round of 16 first leg at White Heart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos told the press that he considers tonight's game against PSV an important test to see what level his side can get to in Europe. 'It's an important test. This is a barometer of where we can go.'
Tottenham Hotspur have already made sure of a place in next season's UEFA Cup campaign after claiming the Carling Cup with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, but Ramos' men are having an inconsistent season and are currently eleventh in the Premier League table. Ramos is looking to bring his second trophy back to White Hart Lane, but after last weekend's 4-1 defeat at Birmingham, he remains cautious about his side's chances. 'The 4-1 loss at Birmingham hurt me and the players, and I think they are desperate to rectify it on Thursday night.'

When Ramos was asked at his media briefing if he could lead Tottenham Hotspur to UEFA Cup triumph, as he did with Sevilla twice in succession, he said: 'We'll see after this game. It's a very important game and only then will I know if my players have the ability to play on this stage.'
The Spaniard again stressed the importance of keeping a clean sheet. 'It is our priority not to concede a goal in Thursday's last-16 first-leg tie at White Heart Lane. Not letting in a goal at home guarantees the chance of going through by drawing or winning away. We need to be at the top of our game to keep that all-important clean sheet that will give us a huge advantage in the second-leg away at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven next Wednesday.' Ramos praised PSV for their team spirit. On the club's website he said: 'PSV are a good side and currently lie six points clear at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie. They have a great history and team spirit. They are solid and you can see that togetherness in them. It would be a mistake to underestimate them.'
