FC Twente have qualied for the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next season after they recorded a goalless draw against Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday afternoon. As FC Twente had claimed a 2-1 home win in the first leg of the play-off, the 0-0 draw was enough to secure them a place in the Champions League for the first time in their history. ADO Den Haag are promoted to the Eredivisie after they enjoyed a 2-1 win over RKC Waalwijk.
FC Twente finished the 2007/08 season in fourth place, seven points behind runners-up Ajax. The team, coached by former PSV coach Fred Rutten, reached the final of the play-off, after a double victory over NAC Breda. FC Twente played their play-off games at the FC Emmen Stadium as their own stadium in Enschede is being throughly renovated. It is not known yet who will take charge of FC Twente when they play in the Champions League next season. Fred Rutten announced the other day that he will join Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 in the summer. FC Twente have not yet appointed a new head coach as successor to Rutten. Ajax play UEFA Cup football next season, along with N.E.C. who finished the regular Eredivisie season in eighth place, but secured a place in the UEFA Cup with a 7-0 win on aggregate over NAC Breda. Mario Been's men thrashed NAC 6-0 in the home leg and beat them 1-0 in Breda in the second leg. NAC Breda, who stunningly finished in third place, will now play Intertotofootball, a scarce consolation.

ADO Den Haag return to the Eredivisie. The team of Wiljan Vloet, who has been appointed head of the PSV youth academy next season, recorded a 2-1 win over RKC Waalwijk in the third and decisive play-off game. De Graafschap made sure of staying up in the Eredivisie last Thursday with a 0-0 draw against FC Zwolle. FC Volendam have ben promoted to the Dutch Eredivisie after they were crowned champions of the First Division. Excelsior and VVV-Venlo have been relegated to the First Division.
