The Dutch Olympic team slipped to a 2-1 defeat against France in their opening game at the four-country-tournament in Sweden. Dirk Marcellis and Otman Bakkal were included in the starting line-up, while Nordin Amrabat was brought on at half time. Roy Makaay scored the only goal for the Dutch Olympic team in Trelleborg.

Only four minutes were on the clock when Foppe de Haan's men were one goal down, after Loic Remy had netted the opener. On the stroke of half time, Yohan Cabaye converted a spot kick, after Barry Opdam had allegedly committed a foul in the area. Lens turned provider for Roy Makaay, who reduced the deficit; 1-2. Coach De Haan is set to give several other players of the squad a chance to show their skills when Holland take on hosts Sweden in their second game at the four-country-tournament. Dirk Marcellis and Otman Bakkal were taken off against France after 58 and 62 minutes, respectively. Ismail Aissati has been forced to pull out of the squad due to a bout of flu.

Marco van Basten, who led his team to a 3-0 win over Ukraine in Rotterdam on Saturday night, has meanwhile cut his provisional squad from 26 to 24. The Holland coach told Feyenoord midfielder Denny Landzaat and FC Twente keeper Sander Boschker that he will not include them in his final 23-man selection. Van Basten still has one more cut to make before he announces his final squad on Wednesday.
