The Philips Stadium in Eindhoven will host an international friendly between the Netherlands versus Australia on Saturday 6 September. It will be the first home game with new coach Bert van Marwijk in charge after the Oranje have travelled to Moscow to face Russia in a friendly on 20 August.

The Netherlands met Australia, the current number 40 in FIFA's world rankings, only once before. They played a warm-up match prior to the 2006 FIFA World Cup at the Rotterdam Kuip on 4 June 2006 resulting in a 1-1 draw. Ruud van Nistelrooy opened the scoring for the Oranje after nine minutes, while Tim Cahill scored the equaliser for Australia in the 54th minute. Australia coach Pim Verbeek prepares his team for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Uzbekistan on 10 September. It will be also be a warm-up match for the Dutch team which is set to meet Macedonia in a World Cup qualifying game on 10 September. The Netherlands have been placed in the smallest of the nine European groups, and will also face Scotland, Norway and Iceland in Group 9. Netherlands versus Australia will take place at Philips Stadium, Eindhoven, on Saturday 6 September with kick-off time of 8.45pm local. From now on, the Dutch team will kick off all their home matches at 8.45pm as all UEFA Champions League fixtures kick off at the same time, as well as the Euro 2008 matches in the knock out stages.
