Holland's Olympic football coach Foppe de Haan has dropped the PSV players Nordin Amrabat and Ismail Aissati from his final 18-man team for next month's Olympic Games in Beijing. Otman Bakkal, Dirk Marcellis and Erik Pieters will report for duty in Oisterwijk on Sunday.
Amrabat: 'It's too bad'
Nordin Amrabat, who joined PSV from VVV-Venlo in summer, has been selected as a standby-player, but admitted he thinks it's too bad he has not been included in the final 18-man party. 'It's a pity I haven't made the final cut', said Amrabat after he had been informed by De Haan last night that he had been omitted from his Olympic squad. 'De Haan's decision will now allow me to fully focus on PSV.' The Dutch Olympic team will meet in Oisterwijk on 20 July for a pre-Olympic Games training camp. Three days later, they will meet Belgium, who have also qualified for the Olympic games, for a friendly in Genk. Foppe de Haan will announce his final eighteen-man squad on that same day. Three days later, on 26 July, the Olympic team will head to Hongkong, where they take part in the ING Cup tournament, from 26 July until 3 August as their final preparations for the Beijing Olympic Games. They will meet Cameroon in their opening game on 30 July and will face Ivory Coast three days later on Saturday August 2. The USA, who have been paired with Holland in Group B at the Olympic Games, will also take part in the pre-Olympic tournament in Hongkong. On Sunday August 3, the team will then travel to Tianjin, where they play their first two group stage matches. The Netherlands are drawn alongside Nigeria, Japan and the United States in Group B. They face Nigeria on August 7 and meet the United States of America three days later.
