Bas Roorda has provided an upbeat assessment on his recovery from back surgery. The goalkeeper, who underwent surgery last month, underlined his commitment to return to full fitness soon. 'I've been doing a lot of hard work the past few weeks. I was operated upon only last month, but am making good progress in my recovery from injury.' Roorda does not know when he will make a comeback.
'Hope to return to full fitness soon'
Roorda endured a miserable time and decided to undergo surgery as he felt troubled by persistent back pain, in particular during the closing stages of the 2007/08 season. 'Things went from bad to worse. I was rested, which did not help, and we finally realised that surgery was the only option left. I'm making good progress in my recovery from injury, especially when you bear in mind that I was operated upon only four weeks ago. I'm positive on my recovery from the back operation.' Roorda would very much like to join the squad for full training soon, preferably tomorrow, but realises that he needs time to recover to full fitness. 'I know what it takes to make a comeback. I hope the doctors will give me the all-clear to return to action if four to five weeks. I am working hard, but I'll just have to wait and see how things develop.' Roorda is full of praise for the new goalkeeping coaches Hans Segers and Anton Scheutjens. 'I met them the past few weeks. I'm looking to the future and am keen to work with them, the sooner the better.'
