Prior to PSV's Wednesday morning training session, the Australian Mark Viduka popped up in the team's hotel to catch up on news with countryman Jason Culina. Viduka, a striker in the service of Newcastle United, is ruled out of tonight's pre-season friendly, as he is recovering from Achilles tendon surgery.
Culina celebrates birthday
Mark Viduka is not the only noticeable absentee in the squad of Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan. With the new season just 15 days away for Newcastle United, their star strikers Michael Owen (calf) and Obafemi Martins (knee) are facing a race against time to be fit for the season's opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Viduka came round in the team's hotel this morning to catch up on news with Jason Culina, who celebrated his 28th birthday yesterday. The two of them have been Australia team mates for many years. Viduka faces a long injury lay-off and will definitely miss the start of the new Premier League season. Viduka and Culina were actually not given an opportunity to tell each other a lot, as Huub Stevens had planned a training session on a pitch near the team's hotel at 10.30pm GMT.
