PSV head coach Huub Stevens paid particular attention to tactical aspects of the game during the second training session on Friday. He analysed specific set pieces step by step, emphasizing that a team should defend as a whole. Ibrahim Afellay stayed at the team hotel as he had been hit in the face by a ball during the morning session.
'A team defends as a whole'
At Everton's state-of-the-art training facilities, Stevens analysed, among other things, the second goal that PSV conceded against Newcastle United on Wednesday. He told the players that he wants his team to defend as a whole. 'We know that it all begins up front defensively and the goalkeeper is the first player to be involved in the attack', explained Stevens. Ibrahim Afellay was the only absentee at training. The midfielder felt dizzy after he had been hit in the face by a ball during the morning session and stayed in the team hotel. All the other players trained for about an hour, practising, among other things, piggy in the middle drills. PSV will conclude their five-day training camp in England with a pre-season friendly against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
