Mark van Bommel
The former PSV player makes his comeback in the Dutch squad after a lengthy absence. The Bayern Munich captain was no longer available for the national team after a fall-out with previous coach Marco van Basten. He last made an appearance for the national team on 25 June 2006 when the Netherlands were eliminated by Portugal at the World Cup in Germany. On Wednesday, the Dutch team will meet Russia, who eliminated them in the quarter-finals of Euro 2008. Guus Hiddink recently signed an extension deal to remain in charge as Russia coach.
Squad:
Goalkeepers: Maarten Stekelenburg (Ajax) and Henk Timmer (Feyenoord).
Defenders: Khalid Boulahrouz (Vfb Stuttgart), Tim de Cler (Feyenoord), John
Heitinga (Atlético Madrid), André Ooijer (Blackburn Rovers), Joris Mathijsen (HSV).
Midfielders: Orlando Engelaar (Schalke), Rafael van der Vaart (Real Madrid), Mark
van Bommel (FC Bayern Munich), Demy de Zeeuw (AZ), Nigel de Jong (HSV), Ibrahim Afellay (PSV), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Feyenoord).
Forwards: Klaas Jan Huntelaar (Ajax), Dirk Kuijt (Liverpool), Robin van Persie (Arsenal), Arjen Robben (Real Madrid) and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (Celtic).
Mexicans called up
The Mexico coach has included the two Mexican defenders who play for PSV, Francisco 'Maza' Rodríguez and Carlos Salcido, in his squad for the World Cup qualifying game against Honduras. Australia, Belgium, Ecuador, Finland, Hungary and Sweden also play a midweek international game, so several PSV players are set to be called up for international duty. PSV head coach Huub Stevens will most likely have to do without a large number of first-team regulars when PSV take on amateurs De Treffers in Groesbeek on Tuesday in their final pre-season friendly.
