Huub Stevens celebrated his first win as PSV head coach in an official game after his team defeated Feyenoord 2-0. Stevens was particularly pleased with his side's second half display, when they enjoyed plenty of possession and were attack-minded. His Feyenoord colleague Gertjan Verbeek criticised the Amsterdam ArenA pitch on which his side slipped to defeat.
'Long grass'
Verbeek did not only blame the inferior pitch for his side's defeat by PSV, when he started his preview of the game in the Amsterdam Arena press room. 'The long grass impeded both sets of players. This is unacceptable. This pitch badly affected our game: it was a difficult pitch to play on. The KNVB, the Dutch Football Association, should have taken this game seriously.' Huub Stevens agreed and added that the pitch was extremely slippery. Verbeek did not single out any player for any blame. 'I could not have asked for more from the players in terms of dedication. PSV made a few tactical changes at half time. All in all, they deserved to win.'
Commanding display
Huub Stevens thought that PSV had put in a commanding display. 'We played too many long balls in the first half, but after the break we enjoyed plenty of possession. I think we thoroughly deserved the win', said Stevens after the game.
