PSV head coach Huub Stevens will put his squad through their paces at the Friday afternoon training session that takes place behind closed doors. 'I usually don't like to hold training sessions behind closed doors, but we want to thoroughly prepare all our players, including the ones that have returned from international duty, for Saturday's clash with Sparta Rotterdam.'
Stadium training
'I realise this may be awkward for the fans and to a lesser degree for the football writers and actually I have hardly ever decided to train behind closed doors before. However, we feel this is the best option', explained Stevens his decision to train on the pitch of the Philips Stadium. 'It creates a perfect opportunity for our new signings to get accustomed to the pitch and the new surroundings. We have just one day left to prepare for tomorrow night's game.' All players have come through the midweek international games unscathed and are fit, according to Stevens, who in particular wants to pay attention to some tactical details. 'The lads that have remained in Eindhoven have been working hard, but with so many players away on international duty we have not been able to do a series of tactical sessions, so we will make amends on Friday afternoon.'
Two home games in four days
Stevens takes each game as it comes, so he will first focus on the Sparta Rotterdam game before turning his attention to Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid. 'I'm sure Sparta are not looking forward to suffering another 5-2 battering, so we'd better concentrate on the next match first of all.'
