Liverpool claimed all three points on their visit to Manchester City. The Reds were trailing 2-0 at half time, but crowned a successful comeback with a 3-2 win as Dirk Kuyt struck the winner deep in stoppage time. Atlético were thrashed 6-1 by Barça.
Manchester City-Liverpool 2-3
Liverpool, who had comfortably coasted to a 3-1 win over PSV at Anfield on Wednesday, had a dismal start to their game at Eastlands. They staged a remarkable revival with a second-half double from Fernando Torres (a tap in and a header) and a goal scored by Dirk Kuyt deep in stoppage time. Liverpool are level on points with top-of-the-table Chelsea, who enjoyed a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa.
FC Barcelona-Atlético Madrid 6-1
Barcelona put in a sparkling display as they hit Atlético Madrid for six at Camp Nou. They ran riot from the first whistle, scoring three goals in nine minutes, thrashing Atlético Madrid 6-1. Rafael Márquez opened the scoring after just two minutes, heading home from a Xavi corner. Samuel Eto'o converted a penalty three minutes later and Lionel Messi added a third goal from a quickly taken free-kick. Atlético pulled one back when Maxi Rodríguez superbly curled an effort past Barcelona keeper Víctor Valdés. Barça responded immediately and Eto'o grabbed his second, while Eidur Gudjohnsen tapped the ball home from the rebound in the 29th minute after Andres Iniesta had rattled the post. The home fans celebrated one more goal. Thierry Henry, who had been brought on to replace Lionel Messi in the 70th minute, scored Barcelona's sixth goal of the night. He started the move himself and after a terrific interchange of passes with Xavi and Bojan, he put the icing on the cake for Barcelona; 6-1
Olympique Marseille-Caen 2-1
Hatem Ben Arfa produced a man-of-the-match performance at Stade Velodrome. The playmaker, who joined Marseille from Olympique Lyon in summer, started a fine solo run and scored the opener in the first minute. He also provided the assist for his side's second goal, netted by Mamadou Niang after Steve Savidan had leveled the score for Caen. It was Marseille's first victory from six matches in all competitions. Erik Gerets's team are currently third in the French table. Olympique Marseille will meet PSV in a UEFA Champions League double header. PSV will first entertain the French club at the Philips Stadium on 22 October.\
