Huub Stevens wants his team to put in a spirited and passionate display against Olympique Marseille on Wednesday night. Stevens told media representatives at the pre-match press conference at the Philips Stadium that PSV have a chance to win the game. 'We have to create our own belief with our attitude. We need a win to keep our hopes of reaching the next round in the Champions League alive.'
'Make amends'
'There's still a small chance for us to advance to the next round and we have to try and take it', explained Stevens. Wednesday's game is crucial for both teams, who have suffered two defeats each already. 'Like us, they have lost two group stage games and it will be very hard for either of us to reach the knock-out phase. We must improve to get a result. On Saturday, we lacked concentration during the first half against NAC Breda. We analysed the game on Monday and watched video replays. We will now focus on tomorrow night's game. I hope the players will make amends', said Stevens in the press room at the Philips Stadium.
We're developing as a team
Stevens admitted that his team are not in great form. 'We haven't met expectations so far, but I'm confident that everything will work out fine. We will have to play as a team. The players are allowed to make mistakes, provided they learn from them' said the PSV coach, referring to Saturday's defeat against NAC Breda. 'We are still developing as a team. It's hard to accept, but we'll keep on working hard to help the team develop.' In order to keep their chances in tact, PSV will have to defeat Olympique Marseille, who have moved to the second place in the French Ligue 1. 'They're a typically French side with technically skilful, physically strong and pacy players. Moreover, they play compact' concluded the PSV coach.
