Huub Stevens has virtually a full-strength squad to choose from for the match against FC Twente at the Philips Stadium on Saturday, with an 18:45 kick off. The PSV coach took charge of training sessions both on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Carlos Salcido and Jan Kromkamp return to the squad, while Méndez and Manco are in South America for family reasons.
Excellent physical condition
On Boxing Day, Stevens previewed Saturday's game and explained his reasons for taking charge of training sessions on both Christmas Days. 'We decided to also train at Christmas, because most players find it hard to adapt after a day off. We could have given them Christmas Day off, but we did not. The players were put through their paces but they had a good time and it was nice to be together and prepare for Saturday's clash with FC Twente.' Huub Stevens has virtually a full-strength squad to choose from for the match against FC Twente at the Philips Stadium, and worked with eighteen players and three goalkeepers at De Herdgang training centre. Carlos Salcido and Jan Kromkamp have recovered from injuries and are fit enough to face FC Twente. 'The lads are in excellent physical condition. We worked hard, but it was great fun to be out on the training pitch as the weather was nice and crisp.'
'We want all three points'
Stevens realizes that FC Twente will always play positive attacking football, both at home and away. 'So it's up to us to face the challenge and play our own game and take advantage of any defensive slip-ups', said Stevens. 'We know they are a great team and their record speaks for itself. We beat Feyenoord last weekend but Saturday's game will be different. FC Twente play a compact defence and we should be wary when they press forward. Feyenoord would gladly have settled for a draw here, but I expect FC Twente will stick to their game plan and will be looking for a win. We want all three points. We need them urgently to stay in touch with our nearest rivals.'
