The disciplinary board of the Dutch FA has handed PSV striker Ola Toivonen a two-game ban with the threat of a third for any further misdemeanors following his red card in Sunday's Eredivisie clash against FC Volendam. After lengthy internal consultations, PSV has decided not to appeal against Toivonen's punishment. As a result of this ban, the Swede will miss the league matches against AZ on 14 February and against FC Groningen one week later.
Ola Toivonen has been found guilty of a charge of deliberately elbowing an opponent. PSV has opted to accept the three-match suspension, but still believes Ola Toivonen has not been guilty of a deliberate elbow attack. The Swedish striker will return to action on Friday, February 27, when PSV play host to sc Heerenveen. Since joining PSV in the January transfer window, Toivonen has made an impact on Dutch football, scoring three goals in as many matches for PSV and also delivering a number of assists.
