This afternoon, PSV will unveil Fred Rutten as their new head coach on a three-year contract. The 46-year-old returns to Eindhoven where he held several positions from 2001 to 2006. Rutten joins PSV from Schalke 04 and succeeds caretaker manager Dwight Lodeweges.
"A special feeling"
Rutten was manager at Schalke 04 this season after he had spent two seasons with FC Twente, where he qualified for the UEFA Champions League preliminary round. His managerial skills did not go unnoticed as he was named Dutch Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches and thus won the Rinus Michels Award. He was head of the PSV Academy for one season and acted as assistant to Guus Hiddink from 2002 to 2006. Together with Hiddink, he led the club to great successes, in particular by guiding them to a place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Rutten will be unveiled as the new PSV head coach to the press at a conference on Friday at 14:30. "It's a special feeling", told Rutten PSV Media.
