All PSV players that were called up for international duty enjoyed World Cup qualifying successes on Wednesday. Ecuador, with Edison Méndez, recorded a spectacular 2-0 victory against Argentina. The other PSV players also got good results, mostly against 'minnow' countries.
International update
Edison Méndez played the full 90 minutes against Argentina and played a vital role in his side's 2-0 victory over coach Diego Maradona's team. Both Carlos Salcido and Maza Rodgriguez also played the full 90 minutes, helping Mexico to a 2-1 win over Trinidad and Tobago. Former PSV player Jason Culina's Australia, who have already secured a place in the 2010 World Cup, beat Bahrein 2-0. In Europe, PSV internationals were also on the winning side. Serbia, with substitute Danko Lazovic claimed a 0-2 win at the Faroe Islands and Andreas Isaksson kept a clean sheet in Sweden's 4-0 home win over Malta. Guus Hiddink led Russia to an emphatic 3-0 win over Finland in Helsinki on Wednesday,.taking a major step towards qualification for next year's final in South Africa. Russia are currently lying in second place in Group 4, one point behind leaders Germany.
