Erik Pieters and Olivier ter Horst have been eliminated in the semi-finals of the international youth tournament in Toulon, after Holland Under-20 were beaten 5-4 on penalties by Chile. The South Americans will meet France in the final, while Holland face Argentina on Friday in a match for the third and fourth place.

FC Utrecht striker Van Wolfswinkel opened the scoring for Holland Under-20 after ten minutes but Chile scored an equaliser ten minutes later. With a 1-1 final-score, penalties were taken to get a result. Both sides had scored their first four penalities, when Van Wolfswinkel of all players had his spot kick saved. The PSV players Erik Pieters and Olivier ter Horst were included in the starting line-up, along with NAC Breda midfielder Donny Gorter, a former PSV player. N.E.C. defender Rens van Eijden, who has also come through the ranks at PSV, was brought on as a substitute on the hour-mark. 'We were so close to reaching the final. It is disappointing to be eliminated after a penalty shoot-out', said Holland Unxder-21 coach Hans Schrijver after the game. 'We produced our best football of the week against Chile. I think the Chileans' goal was offside, but I won't belittle their victory. Chile have been impressive and finishing as winners of their Group speaks volumes. They have several small, pacy and agile players who were a constant menace.' Holland will face Argentina, who were beaten on penalties by France, on Friday in a match for the third and fourth place, with a 18:00 kick off.
