Xiang Sun was not only the first Chinese player to wear a PSV shirt, he was also the first Chinese to make an appearance for PSV in the UEFA Champions League. Sun is currently plying his trade with Austria Wien, but another Chinese international, Haibin Zhou, joined PSV at the beginning of 2009.
'A good lad'
The 23-year old midfielder made his debut for PSV in an official match on 16 February, when Young PSV took on their sc Heerenveen counterparts in a league tie. He has never made an appearance for the senior team in a competitive match yet. He made football history at Sport Park De Beemd in Mierlo-Hout last night, though: he was the first Chinese to score a goal for PSV. In fact, he bagged a hat trick, scoring two goals in the first half and adding one after the break. Fred Rutten told local newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad that Haibin Zhou had made a favourable impression upon him the past few days and the PSV head coach praised the Chinese's work ethics. 'He's a good lad. We communicate in English as he speaks the language pretty well.' Haibin Zhou signed a one-year contract in February with an option for a further two-and-a-half years.
