PSV showed progress in their pre-season campaign as they concluded their second week of practise with a 0-4 win over UDI'19 in Uden on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of goals from Ooijer, Koevermans, Lazovic and Bakkal. PSV head coach Fred Rutten again used 22 players.
PSV scored 25 goals and kept four clean sheets
PSV concluded the second week of pre-season training with a 0-4 win over UDI. It has been a tough week for the players who were subjected to a vigorous schedule with many training sessions in Oisterwijk and four friendly matches against amateur teams. Head coach Fred Rutten chose to field a relatively strong team on Saturday afternoon, including many internationals, who had reported back for pre-season training on Monday. The two goalkeepers, Andreas Isaksson, who played his first 45 minutes for PSV in pre-season, and Cássio Ramos after the break, kept another clean sheet. PSV conceded no goals in their three previous matches against RKSV Driel (0-10), RKSV Mierlo-Hout (0-10) and De Valk (0-1) either and scored 25 goals.
Otman Bakkal netted a fine goal
PSV were by far the better team in the initial stages, but UDI keeper Thijs van Hoeij pulled off a string of spectacular saves, denying Nordin Amrabat and Danny Koevermans. Twenty minutes were on the clock when the deadlock was broken. A Dzsudzsák free kick was headed on by striker Koevermans and André Ooijer was on hand to head home the opening goal. Danny Koevermans doubled PSV's lead on the stroke of half time; 0-2. Rutten made six half time changes and brought on five players during the second half. Bakkal found Lazovic seven minutes into the second half and the Serb striker tapped home from close range: 0-3. And Bakkal put the icing on the cake when he scored the best goal of the afternoon ten minutes from time. Nijland delivered a through ball and Bakkal finished clinically, crowning a convincing performance; 0-4.
Pre-season friendly against RKC Waalwijk on Tuesday
All in all, 22, including the youngsters Freek Heerkens, Olivier ter Horst and Nigel Hasselbaink, had a good work-out. PSV are set to face newly promoted RKC Waalwijk in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday. PSV wore their new black away Nike shirt for the first time on Saturday afternoon in the pre-season friendly in Uden, while the goalkeepers wore their new orange jerseys.
