Willem II have surprisingly reached the Amstel Cup 2005 final. The Tilburg based team knocked favourites Ajax out of the Cup, following a 1-0 win. PSV had already progressed to the Cup final, when they beat Feyenoord on penalties on Wednesday night. The Dutch Cup final is scheduled on 29 May next.The hosts had some scary moments in the first half hour against the number 2 of the Holland Casino Eredivisie. But the opening goal scored by their Belgian midfielder Tom Caluwé on 38e minutes turned the game upside down. Ajax wasted some excellent opportunities to level the score in the latter stages of the second period after Charisteas had been brought on and thus Willem II will face PSV in the Rotterdam Kuip. After lots had been drawn it appeared that Willem II are the home side at the Cup final.Should PSV win the Dutch title – and who will doubt that - Willem II are ensured of playing UEFA Cup football next season. It does not matter whether they win or lose the final, because PSV, as champions of the 2005-2006 campaign, will take part in next year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League.
