In the cathedral of Italian football PSV have not been able to finish some well-built up attacks by scoring a goal. The team of coach Guus Hiddink dominated proceedings for long periods, but did not capitalize any of a great many opportunities. AC Milan did and have now a two-goal cushion, following a 2-0 win.BitterThe result was bitter, extremely bitter. No team displayed such a great second half performance in San Siro this season before. PSV created six chances in an away game, at this stage of the most prestigious tournament and completely controlled the second period: PSV deserved much more than they got in the end. The newly –crowned Dutch champions attacked the Serie A leaders, but were cruelly punished by a late gasp second goal. PSV earned plenty of chances, in particular after the break. AC Milan goalkeeper Dida held on, though, so that Milan now have a great chance of reaching the final. The hosts scored their two goals in the closing stages of the first as well of the second period. Shevchenko found the net just before the break and Tomasson added a second goal in injury time. It was a devastating blow, for it was scored just when PSV seemed to have done enough to give themselves a chance in next Wednesday’s second leg in Eindhoven.High pace'Noi ci crediamo', was the text on a large banner, which could be translated as 'We believe in ourselves'. The hosts certainly lived up to that slogan in the initial stages. They started many moves and the pace of their game was high, but PSV keeper Gomes thwarted their efforts. And Ji-Sung Park came to assist him by heading a ball off the line. The South Korean was also great in attack and constantly threatened the Milan defence.Jefferson Farfán earned two chances, but the shots he delivered were weak and fired straight at the goalkeeper. Clarence Seedorf was shown a yellow card for a foul on Park and Gomes was booked for wasting time. After a turbulent start in hectic circumstances, PSV gradually made their presence felt in an exciting, evenly contested game. Yet PSV were trailing on the verge of half time when Kaka put Shevchenko clear with a clever through ball and the Ukrainian striker coolly slotted home the opening goal; 1-0. ParkWilfred Bouma remained behind in the dressing room at half time. Theo Lucius took over; Phillip Cocu was now partnered with Alex in the heart of defence. PSV started brightly: Dida could not hold a Young-Pyo Lee shot and Park was almost in time to pounce on the rebound. Park got another chance, but he shot straight at the keeper. Soon afterwards Gomes pulled off an acrobatic safe, when Shevchenko delivered a fine lob.OoijerHiddink took off DaMarcus Beasley thirty minutes from final time and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink left the bench to strengthen the attack. Farfán was now deployed as winger on the right flank. Park just failed to connect with a Farfán cross and Van Bommel fired over the goal when he was in a good shooting position. Just when Milan only focused on denying PSV an away goal, substitute Tomasson cruelly snatched a second goal for his side. A shot by Kaka was deviated by Cocu and the ball suddenly fell to the former Feyenoord forward who scored from close range; 2-0.André Ooijer misses the return leg in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium, after he was cautioned for as foul on Shevchenko.
