Count down to the Fenerbahçe SK - PSV clash has started. Tonight at a quarter to ten local time the ruling champions of Turkey will meet PSV in the second Champions League group phase. Two continentsThe odd blue-yellow Fenerbahçe shirt is to be seen in the chaotic streets of the European part of Istanbul, but it will only be matter of time before the tension will be built up at the other bank of the Bosporus. The Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü Stadium is situated in the Asian part. Istanbul is the only town in the world that is situated on two different continents. The PSV players’ hotel is in the Asian part, not far from the stadium. And that’s a good thing, for it takes much time to cross the bridge that connects two continents, by car or by bus. On the bridge there is one big traffic jam. And cliches like a melting pot and pandemonium serve very well to describe tonight’s atmosphere. Fenerbahçe fans claim that you had better talk with friends and other fans before the game is kicked off, as it won’t be possible to do so during the game. FavouritesThe players have no time to see the sights of the town where there are many palaces, mosques and bazars, situated between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea. After last night’s final training they withdrew to the hotel to rest, to have treatment and to have their meals. The starting line up will be announced one hour before kick off and then it will be clear whether some doubts are fit enough to start after all. Fenerbahçe are favourites among the people in the street and representatives of the press. The Frenchman Nicolas Aneleka and the Brazilian playmaker Alex de Souza in particular enjoy a great popularity among the Turkish fans.
