PSV did not lose their heads when ADO Den Haag hoped to snatch one point by playing a very physical kind of football and eventually claimed an emphatic 3-0 win. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored a second half double and Koné made it three in the closing stages. ADO Den Haag attempted to impress PSV with a rather intimidating kind of style, but the team coached by Guus Hiddink kept cool as they knew that quality would win in the end. By pulling off another win, PSV continued a splendid run at home. In fact the Eindhoven outfit won all their games and they conceded only goal. In the very first home league game, when PSV took on Vitesse at the beginning of August, Alex scored an own goal, but since then the PSV defence have kept only clean sheets in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium, both on the domestic and the European stage. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink opened the deadlock on the hour mark and added another headed goal, thus taking his season’s tally to three goals.Ibrahim AfellayThe first half was a rather uneventful affair. ADO Den Haag had made the trip to Eindhoven to put on a brave fight and they demonstrated that from the very first minute. When ADO Den Haag had possession, they did all right and their striker partners Den Ouden and Mols were threatening at times. Whenever PSV started moves, though, the visitors used all intimidating means to stop PSV. Referee Koopman was quite lenient, to the annoyance of the home crowd, but he cautioned three players in the first period.Mols created a dangerous moment, when he was put clear, but he was controversially adjudged to be offside. Ibrahim Afellay was taken off on 30 minutes, as he had sustained a groin injury, and versatile Theo Lucius left the bench to fill in. Lucius made his mark and when he missed the goal by just some inches, but clear-cut chances were far and few before the break. Vennegoor of HesselinkIn the second half PSV gradually started to dominate. ADO Den Haag had even fewer attacking ideas and the number of wild and reckless tackles seemed to increase by the minute. Guus Hiddink brought on Jefferson Farfán, who took over from Reiziger, just when PSV began to take full control. After Jason Culina had wasted an opportunity, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink finally broke the deadlock. The tall striker was left completely unmarked when he created some space and rose high to head home a corner; 1-0.. PSV continued to create chances and again the hosts needed a lot of fouls to stay in the game. After Farfán and Cocu had tested the keeper with two free kicks, Vennegoor of Hesselink made virtually sure of victory when he scored a second headed goal, from a perfect Michael Lamey cross; 2-0. KonéADO Den Haag got what they deserved and were down to ten men ten minutes from final time, when Rijaard was shown a second yellow card for a nasty tackle on Farfán. PSV kept on attacking in the closing stages and were rewarded for their efforts with a fine third goal. André Ooijer superbly picked out Koné, who took time to see what goalkeeper De Vries would do. When de Vries was on the ground, he calmly prodded the ball home: 3-0.PSV welcome NAC Breda next Saturday night, again in the Eindhoven Philips Stadium.
