Guus Hiddink was quite honest at the post-match press conference and admitted that PSV had "snatched victory from N.E.C., who are a stubborn and strong side at home." "We knew beforehand it would be hard to beat N.E.C. in Nijmegen, as they are having a fine run. They are a strong, well-balanced side at home. That’s why I am delighted we have earned a win here", said Hiddink, who was also glad the winter break is getting closer. "Gomes produced a superb save in the first minutes. We soon opened the scoring and got some first half opportunities to double the advantage. After the break we were not accurate in our final passes. We played some scrappy football at times, but yet we have managed to clinch all three points against a side that put on a fair display. But we owe Gomes, who kept a clean sheet by producing a string of fine saves. We lost points in other games, where were more dominant than we were today. We have one more game to play before we can take a winter break." Ron de Groot, caretaker manager after Cees Lok unexpectedly left N.E.C., thought his side had played well and aggressively. "Our game plan was to play a diamond in order to dominate proceedings in midfield. Denneboom missed a good opportunity and then they capitalized on their very first chance on ten minutes. PSV wasted some good opportunities to make it 0-2. We performed well, but did not create any clear-cut chances. PSV are an experienced side. I told my players at half time to maintain our organization and trey and give PSV some hard times. We brought on two more forwards in the closing stages in a desperate attempt to salvage one point. We obviously gave away some space at the back and PSV have enough quality players to kill off the game."
