The Australian Archie Thompson will join PSV for the rest of the season. Today it has been announced that the 27-year old forward will make a move from Melbourne Victory on a six-month loan and that a buy-out clause has been included in his contract. Fourth AustralianArchie Thompson was linked with PSV for some time, but it took a while before the deal was completed. Thompson, who was born on 23 October 1978, will come to Eindhoven after next weekend, probably on Monday or Tuesday. It is not the first time Thompson (weight 70 kg, height 1.74m) will ply his trade in Europe. The Socceroo is the only player of the national team that makes appearances in the national league. He had a four-season spell with the Belgian club Lierse SK before. Thompson is now the fourth Australian in the service of PSV. He will join his country fellows Nathan Coe, Jason Culina and Lindsay Wilson. He will obviously also meet Guus Hiddink, head coach of PSV, but also of the Australian national team that qualified for the World Cup 2006 after a 32-year wait. Thompson boasts a remarkable record: he scored as many as twenty goals in sixteen games for his country, but it should be added that he once scored an astonishing thirteen goals in one game, when Australia hammered Samoa 31-0.
