VOF, Cocu and Van Bommel receive call-up (PSV.nl)

PV players Phillip Cocu and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink have been called up by Marco van Basten, coach of the national squad, for the squad of the national team that play a friendly against Ecuado. Mark van Bommel (FC Barcelona) has also received a call-up.André Ooijer was called up for the provisional squad , but he has been dropped, as he broken his toe. Van Basten has invited one debutant: Feyenoord midfielder Nick Hofs. AZ forward Martijn Meerdink has also been named. Van Basten and his assistant John van 't Schip have named a 22-man squad for the friendly in the Amsterdam ArenA on 1 March. Seven changes have been made to the team that met Italy on 12 November last. Besides Meerdink, Hofs en Van Bommel, Tim de Cler, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Barry Opdam and Arjen Robben have also been called up again. They were all injured when the Dutch team faced Italy.Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Nigel de Jong, Ryan Babel, Jan Kromkamp and Ellery Cairo were all in the November squad, but they will not make an appearance next week. Sneijder is injured and Van der Vaart will make a comeback, when he is brought on as a substitute for Hamburger SV next Thursday night. Robin van Persie has also sustained an injury and Roy Makaay and Edgar Davids have been dropped from the final squad. Former PSV striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not received an official invitation yet.. The final squad for next Wednesday night: Goalkeepers: Henk Timmer (AZ) and Edwin van der Sar (Manchester United).Defenders: Urby Emanuelson (Ajax), Tim de Cler, Kew Jaliens, Joris Mathijsen and Barry Opdam (both AZ), Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Barcelona), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord) and Khalid Boulahrouz (HSV).Midfielders: Hedwiges Maduro (Ajax), Denny Landzaat (AZ), Mark van Bommel (Barcelona), Nicky Hofs (Feyenoord), George Boateng (Middlesbrough) and Phillip Cocu (PSV).Forwards: Martijn Meerdink (AZ), Arjen Robben (Chelsea), Romeo Castelen, Dirk Kuijt (both Feyenoord), Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester United) and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (PSV).
