PSV head coach Guus Hiddink announced at the post-match press conference that he was delighted with the 1-0 victory over N.E.C., but he added that he thought that the win was far too narrow. "We had to wait patiently, but I never told my players to play at a low pace." N.E.C. coach Ron de Groot emphasized he had drawn up a defensive match plan for his side. "We were well organized in defence and conceded little during the first period. We knew PSV create chances from set pieces and we survived some scary moments. Our keeper Van Emmerik kept is in the game. We had little to offer in attack. We lost possession far too soon and then you are bound to get problems. The second half was more of the same. We leaned back too far. And PSV did score the goal from a set piece. We created a chance in the final minute of official time; that was the first time we got close to their goal." "This was one of those games where the goalkeeper can make the difference. We created plenty of chances, but somehow we did not get the ball into the goal. If we had been 3-0 on top, it would have been a fair reflection of what had been going on. We had to wait patiently, but I never told my players to play at a low pace. And it took a very long time for us to break the deadlock. Farfán superbly scored from a well-struck free kick. There was a late scare in front of our goal at the death, but we had never been in problems earlier in the game. All in all, a fine, but far too narrow win", concluded Hiddink.
