Defending champions knocked out (PSV.nl)

The new world champion football will be from Europe. Defending champions Brazil suffered a stunning 1-0 defeat against 1998 winners France in the quarter finals. Semi finalsArgentina, one of the top favourites, had been sent home before, following a defeat on penalties against hosts Germany last Friday night. Italy reached the semi finals at the cost of Ukraine. Portugal is the fourth semi finalist. Just like the Germans, the Portuguese needed a penalty shoot out to see off England.Two semi finals clashes have been scheduled. Germany will meet Italy in Dortmund on 4 July and Portugal will face France in Munich on 5 July.
