PSV have continued their impressive run by recording an emphatic 0-4 win over De Graafschap. They were never in danger and their 13th victory out of 15 league matches was well deserved. Three points and a new record was the reward for the business-like efficiency that PSV demonstrated once again. The legendary Ajax record of going 1, 082 minutes without conceding a goal was broken in the 63rd minute of the match. In his pre-match press briefing PSV manager Guus Hiddink felt that PSV should be wary and he added that he did not feel confident, but actually it was turned into a thrilling game. The first goal was a present on the eve of Sinterklaas, the second was scored from the spot and PSV netted two more goals from three chances. An extraordinary goal scored on 20 minutes put PSV on top. De Graafschap keeper Rob van Dijk seemed to have caught a header delivered by Alex. While lying on the ground the ball slipped from his hands. It fell to Cocu and he found Alex, who could tap home the easiest of goals. It was a welcome present in a rather uneventful opening period. PSV got some opportunities to double the advantage before the break and Ji-Sung Park threatened a few times, but no more goals were scored in the first period. When bottom-rock De Graafschap moved forward at times, it became clear that the PSV defence was very anxious to not concede a goal. The defenders saw that it that their keeper Gomes had an easy night. When PSV had made sure the new record was theirs, they turned their attention to the attack. It soon paid off: when Farfán had been fouled in the box, referee Wegereef awarded the visitors a penalty. Van Bommel converted by blasting the ball home in the left corner; 0-2. Some fifteen minutes from final; time substitute DaMarcus Beasley turned provider for Farfán, who made it three. Eight minutes before the final whistle went it was Young-Pyo Lee who found Farfán again and the Peruvian winger, who rounded off a flowing move, had his name on the score sheet for the second time this night.
