Young PSV were held to a goalless draw by their Ajax counterparts at De Herdgang training ground on Thursday night. Both teams created chances after the break in particular, but did not succeed in breaking the deadlock.
Young PSV net Young Ajax on an icy cold night in spring, four days after the Eredivisie clash between the first teams. Both sides missed a few regulars that were away on international duty. Young PSV coach Anton Jansen played first team regulars Oscar Moens, Csaba Fehér and Michael Lamey, while Young Ajax fielded Dennis Gentenaar, Olaf Lindenbergh and Nicola Mitae, who have also gained experience in the Dutch top flight. The first period was a low-key affair, with neither side being able to create any clear-cut chances. Oscar Moens was called into action one time, when he did well to deny an Amsterdam forward. After the break both teams moved men forward and Oscar Moens pulled off some fine saves. Ajax thought they had opened the scoring soon after the interval, but the goal did not stand as an Ajax player was adjudged to have been offside. At the other end Tijani Belaid started a fine run, but he sent his effort against the bar and Jelle Schijvenaars fired the rebound over the goal. Juan Carlos Carrizo cut into the penalty area a few times, but he did not finish clinically, so the game not unexpectedly ended in a 0-0 draw. PSV and FC Twente are still fourth in the standings, trailing third-placed Ajax by two points. Young SC Heerenveen hold a twelve-point cushion over runners-up FC Utrecht and are set to clinch the title soon. <b>Young PSV line-up:</b> Moens, Van Berlo, Lamey (Heerkens), Ter Horst, Fehér, Carratta, El Yacoubi (Belaid), Van Boekel, Schijvenaars (Voss), Gorter, Carrizo
