PSV coach Ronald Koeman hailed his team’s deserved 2-0 victory at the post-match press conference. “We started tentatively, but then put in a passionate and spiritedly display. The crowd has been terrific. This is how we would like PSV to play”, he said at the Philips Stadium.
“We haven taken the first of three hurdles”, said Koeman, referring to the next two fixtures. “We didn’t start well. FC Twente have some quality midfielders who are hard to dispossess. But after ten minutes we got into the game and then soon scored two goals. I think the second goal in particular was fabulous, with Mendez and Farfán exchanging neat passes. Once we had taken a two-goal lead, we played more compactly. We could have scored a few more goals in the second half, but I think we fully deserved our victory.”
FC Twente coach Fred Rutten liked to be back in Eindhoven. The former assistant coach at PSV was not dissatisfied with his team’s performance. “Farfán wrapped up the game in two minutes. These two minutes were decisive as we lost control. After the break the game was evenly balanced. We tried to reduce the deficit, but were unable to create chance. We hope to pull off fair results in the two remaining games, before we start the play-off games."
